& Process

I applied to become a Graduate Assistant through the college's GA initiative. The application was smooth and efficient. After submitting my application, I interviewed the program coordinator. We discussed the roles and responsibilities, and expectations for Graduate Assistants. It was a very easy, straightforward, and encouraging process, and I am excited about the possibility of contributing to the academic community in this role.

We'll chat about your career goals, motivation, salary expectations, and if you're willing to relocate. Then, I'll ask you to tell me about yourself. We'll also cover your greatest strength and weakness, what makes you unique, and something not on your resume. We'll discuss how your strengths help you perform, how you handle failure and success, if you consider yourself successful, and why. Also, how you handle stress and pressure. I'll ask you to describe yourself, a typical work week, if you're nice, willing to fail, and willing to relocate. We'll also talk about your work ethic, work style, if you work well with others, and if you take work home with you.

I contacted the Chairperson of the College of Business and Technology, pitching myself and expressing my interest in teaching at ETSU upon graduation. He requested my professional portfolio, which I sent electronically. Following up with another call after two weeks, we discussed the opportunity further, and he agreed to have me teach after I graduated. My potential courses were Marketing Principles, Fundamentals of Distribution, or Consumer Behavior. I then had an on-campus meeting in March 2015, a relaxed yet professional discussion where my credentials were affirmed. He provided me with a sample syllabus and a Marketing textbook. I began developing course materials for Marketing Principles right after graduating in May 2015.

I applied and got an interview request about a month later. It was a panel interview with three people who took turns asking questions. I also had to do an interview task before the interview. They said the whole process would take a few weeks, and I'd hear back either way. It's been over a month, and two of the interviewers haven't responded to my emails, which was disappointing given I thought they'd be more professional.
