First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at East London NHS.
Researcher
It was pretty straightforward. The interviewers were nice and included someone with lived experience on the panel, which was a good touch. It felt like they really wanted me to do well. They asked about my day-to-day responsibilities.
- What motivates your interest in this position?
Life Skills Assistant
The interview was held on Whatsapp video call, which I found very unprofessional. Their internet connection was having issues and hence they switched the interview to a regular phone call. Furthermore, the interview panel members who were supposed to conduct the interview were not present, instead there were some other members of the institution who were just mentioned during the phone call. The interview was supposed to start at 11.15 am, however it started 20 mins later which I was not informed of. Overall, it was a very unprofessional experience.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- How would you keep a patient from getting bored with their daily routine? What actions would you take?
Qualified Mental Health Practitioner
The interview process at the NHS is quite challenging and can be anxiety-inducing, but it does follow national equal opportunity guidelines. In my experience, there was an interview panel of three to four people. This panel consisted of the team service manager, a consultant psychiatrist, a family therapist, and a service user. They asked me about 8 questions, some of which were two-part, focusing on my professional and interpersonal skills.
- Regarding service delivery for young people in the community, what are its challenges and how can they be dealt with effectively?
- What are your thoughts on the challenges in delivering services to young people in the community, and what are some ways to overcome them?
Resourcing Team Leader
There were 3 interview panel members, they were very attentive and helpful. They made me feel relax. I was feeling welcome from the first minute and the interview was fluent and interesting. Panel members were asking questions in turns: one was asking 2-3 questions and then the next panellist was taking over to ask another set of questions.
- Tell us about yourself.
- Can you walk us through your previous experience?
- Imagine a case scenario related to your typical work, how would you handle it?
