Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at E.ON.
Energy Specialist
The interview process was pretty simple, but the job ad was a bit of a lie. They say you can get paid 'up to 22k' but when you get the offer, it's actually 18.5k (minimum wage) until your manager decides to promote you. There's no set time for this, so they could keep you at minimum wage for any length of time they wanted. It felt like they intentionally misled people with the ad because none of this was mentioned.
- What keeps you motivated in your work?
Energy Specialist
I applied for two positions, Team Leader and Energy Specialist, at E.ON Next, and the experience was really good overall. They made me feel quite at ease, which encouraged me to share more personal experiences, like using mental health examples, when answering questions about overcoming difficulties. Usually, I'd hesitate to bring up mental health issues because I'd worry about being judged or it affecting my chances. The whole process moved pretty fast, from applying to the interview itself and then getting the feedback and outcome. My only minor gripe is that the feedback didn't come from the two people who actually interviewed me.
- Tell me about a time you got difficult news or encountered a challenge, and how you handled it.
Energy Specialist
Went through an online assessment, then a video interview with generic CS questions. After that, there were two more interviews which felt unnecessary and lacked emotion. It was led by a very old-school HR lady. Despite having lots of CS experience and awards for customer service and sales, it didn't seem to matter. I'm reliable and a graduate, but apparently that wasn't enough. Being honest didn't count for much either, and my enthusiasm for the process didn't make a difference. It felt like a waste of time. If the recruitment strategy is this rigid, especially during the pandemic, and doesn't give opportunities to loyal young people to prove themselves, then what's the point?
- Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.
- Can you describe your previous experience and the reasons for leaving your last job?
- How many people do you estimate are currently in the air?
