First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dyne Therapeutics.
Associate Director
So the interview process had some ups and downs. The hiring manager and most of the interview panel were great, really nice people. But there were a few concerning things, especially with HR and some panel members, that made me wonder about their approach to diversity and inclusion. Firstly, the HR person seemed unprofessional. An external recruiter I know had worked with them before and even gave me a heads-up that even if I was a top candidate, they might not think I was suitable. Then, it took HR two weeks to send me the interview invitation after the hiring manager already told me I'd be moving forward. During the interview itself, the HR mentioned they couldn't upgrade the role to director level, which was weird because I never asked for that. They then said upgrading to director is common at Dyne, but it wouldn't happen for me because of the hiring manager's title, and that the HR team likes everyone to have growth opportunities. On top of that, I was ghosted after the interview and had to chase them up a month later. The HR claimed they sent an email weeks ago and it must have gone to spam, but I checked everywhere and nothing arrived – she definitely never sent it. Secondly, one of the panel members, a stakeholder, seemed technically skilled but was excessively critical. I honestly don't think the person who eventually got the job, or anyone currently on the team, has the level of experience or technical ability he was looking for. The background check was also part of the process.
- Can you discuss a technical question about setting strategy?
- Tell me about your experience with behavior questions regarding teamwork.
Clinical Trial Assistant
The interview felt rushed and they emphasized a need to sacrifice personnel time in order to show you are a better employee (like staying late, coming early, etc). While it felt like the company itself had a lot of nice benefits, it seemed jarring that was the first interaction.
- Can you explain your background?
- Do you have any questions about the role?
Scientist
The interview started with a virtual and phone chat with HR and the hiring manager. All PhD level scientists (or higher) had to give a 45-minute seminar followed by a 15-minute Q&A, open to the entire R&D department. They really emphasized bringing your best for this. The rest of the day was a bunch of 1-on-1s with important team folks. It's pretty much like other biotech companies around MA. The whole thing can change a lot depending on who's hiring and which department. For me, it went pretty well, even with some tough questions from the senior managers. The team seemed cool and supportive, but a few of them clearly weren't paying attention during my presentation based on their questions in the 1v1s. HR was super quick at the end, which was great.
- How would you approach an aggressive research timeline?
- What experience do you have with managing CROs?
Director
The recruiting and interview process felt rushed. The hiring manager conducted unprofessional interviews. They oversold the company, but the pipeline wasn't great. High turnover is also a concern. I lost interest during the interview process and wouldn't work here at all.
- What makes you want to join this company?
