After getting referred by someone who works there, a recruiter reached out to schedule a Zoom call with the hiring manager. I passed that and was given a take-home project to do. I spent a couple of days and a few hours on it before submitting. Two days later, I heard back that they weren't moving forward with my application and wouldn't give any feedback or discuss my take-home project. It's pretty disappointing because candidates put time into these projects, and the least they could do is offer some feedback or discuss areas for improvement. Just saying they want to keep the door open for the future when applicants don't know what they did wrong is rude.

It was a really smooth interview process from start to finish. The recruiter was super responsive and even helped speed things up to accommodate my other offer. I actually enjoyed the take-home assignment, it was interesting and used skills relevant to my work. The code pairing during the interviews showed off the collaborative engineering vibe at dutchie, and it was great to see effective pairing that fostered growth and support without any ego. I also liked meeting several engineers and the CTO to get a better sense of what dutchie is all about.

The interview was pretty straightforward and everyone was nice. I could only code in Ruby or C#, even though I mostly use a different language now. Writing in C# after not using it for 10 months was not fun. It felt like the interviewer cared more about their specific solution than my thinking. Even though I did well, I had to chase them for an answer and was told I was 'down leveled' to Staff Engineer because of the technical interview, and that there were no openings for that role. While I was waiting, I saw the job re-listed on LinkedIn. They could have at least sent a rejection email. It seems like they don't respect candidates or their time. I'd avoid Dutchie.
