Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at dunnhumby.
Intern
The company only hires female interns, explicitly excluding male candidates. They claim to consider male applicants for group discussions to appear inclusive, but this is misleading. In a recent recruitment drive at Delhi University for M. Sc. Operational Research, despite male candidates outperforming females, only 4 boys were selected compared to 13 girls out of 17. Subsequently, from a pool of underperforming girls and high-performing boys, the company advanced 5 girls and 1 boy to the next stage. The internship process at Dunnhumby is thus considered a sham for male applicants.
- Guesstimation, Quant and verbal questions were asked in the first round.
- A Group Discussion was conducted in the second round.
- More questions were asked after the second round.
Intern
It was a two interview process. The first interview was done over the phone and went over my classwork and my experience outside classwork. Did not ask too many behavioral based questions. Then after the first interview, they invited us to a half-day on-site. We were first given a couple of group assessments. Then they broke us up and gave each of us a problem. We were given around 20 minutes to solve the problem and answer the questions. Then two interviewers went over the answers and our processes with us. The behavior based questions came after that. We then were provided lunch and had a Q&A with two employees who gave us a tour.
- How would you narrow down a search if you had to focus on a specific group of people based on a single attribute and sift through all the data?
Intern
I sent in my application and then had an online test, which was okay on numeracy but felt a bit rushed. After that, there was a video interview with some behavioral questions. The final stage was an assessment centre that included a presentation, another interview, and a group exercise. Dunnhumby was really good with communication, sending reminders and leaving voicemails.
- Regarding data collection at Dunnhumby, how is it done? And in relation to that, what is the function of the Tesco Clubcard?
- Can you describe a situation where you encountered a difficulty and how you managed to resolve it?
- Could you share an experience of working within a team and highlight your specific contributions?
