First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dunnes Stores.
Management Trainee
It was a quick interview that got straight to the point, asking exactly what they needed to and expecting concise answers. The style was competency-based, letting you use your transferable skills to answer.
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a tough situation.
Manager
I applied for a trainee manager position and was scheduled to meet with the regional manager at a company branch. I had to wait an hour past my scheduled interview time, which made me nervous. The interview lasted about an hour and 20 minutes, with some general conversation. The regional manager indicated I interviewed well and that he would arrange a head office interview. I received a call from head office within an hour to schedule this second interview for the following week. At head office, I was interviewed by the head of HR. This interview was similar to the first, with a few more questions, and the interviewer seemed more formal than the regional manager. Two weeks after this interview, I was emailed an offer of employment with contract details.
- Can you tell us about yourself?
- What would you say are your strongest skills?
- What makes you think you would be a good manager?
Assistant Manager
So I had one interview and they were pretty civil. They asked me about my work history, any gaps I had, my skills with people and management, and how I solve problems. Then they asked if I'd worked at other branches before. After that, they sent me home and said they'd call me with their decision. A few days later, I found out I didn't get the job.
