First, I had a 30-minute screening call with HR. Then, I was emailed some general questions, like 'tell us about yourself', and also given a short, buggy C routine to fix. After that, I had a one-hour in-person interview with the head of development. Finally, they offered me a paid one-week trial in their office.

Had two sessions. First, a phone call which was pretty casual. The recruiter chatted about my past experience and asked some questions to see if I'd be a good fit. They were really nice and understanding. Then, a face-to-face interview with the manager. They asked a lot about basic seismic concepts, so you really need to know the fundamentals. There was also a test where they gave a paper with questions on formulas, concepts, and calculations. The manager was pretty chill, letting me be myself. They liked accurate and efficient answers, direct and to the point. I guess I didn't get the job because they probably prefer logical thinkers over creative ones. I tend to think laterally and brainstorm a lot of ideas for one question, but the manager seemed to prefer someone with linear thinking who could find the most accurate solution. Maybe I didn't meet their requirements for attention to detail, being organized, and producing accurate work.

It was pretty straightforward. We started with an initial phone screen, then spent some time in a small conference room chatting around a dry board and going through my CV. They have some hard problems they're trying to solve and solid maths skills will be required.
