I got contacted by a recruiter on linked in about a senior software engineer role, but I'm junior level. They decided to toss my resume in anyway. A senior engineer at dstillery set up an hour long interview where they asked about the work on my resume, specifically why I chose certain tools/approaches. If my explanations weren't optimal, they asked what I would do differently. It was informative and engaging. They explained that they wouldn't move forward since they wanted someone more senior with specific experience and told me what that experience was. The interviewer gave me feedback, was encouraging, and provided reading material. The whole process was nice and smooth. The recruiter stayed in contact, and the interviewer was engaging and helpful.

Technical Coding

I applied after seeing a 'hiring' ad, expecting to work on distributed systems and ML. I completed a well-designed take-home task and got positive feedback, moving to an on-site. The on-site was disorganized; I didn't get the day's structure despite asking. Interviewers hadn't reviewed my take-home or CV. The interview included standard algorithms and many specific Java SE questions, which was frustrating given the role's description. It felt like a J2EE exam I hadn't prepared for. One interviewer was unfriendly. A c-level exec in the lift was dismissive. Despite this, I was told I'd meet the CEO/CTO, but a week later was informed of a delay until late August with no explanation. Two follow-up emails went unanswered. I eventually accepted another offer, and they didn't respond. The process felt unprofessional, inconsistent, and suggested a poor company culture.

Coding Technical

I got contacted by a recruiter via email thanks to a referral. I then had to complete a coding challenge where I had to work with code provided by the company. The company got back to me about the results really fast. The recruiter was nice and answered all my questions. They sent me a really long and detailed email explaining why my solution wasn't good enough. I really appreciated that they took the time to write a detailed review, showing they really spent time on it.
