It wasn't hard, it was easy. The person interviewing me was really nice and respectful and understanding. Then I had to fill out paperwork, which was a lot but not too bad, a little lengthy but overall okay. The interview itself lasted about ten minutes.

I was given a scheduled interview time and greeted by the receptionist. I was then immediately introduced to my interviewer, who was very knowledgeable about DSI's operations and all local job opportunities. He reviewed my resume and was interested in my perspective on the role, my aspirations, my past experience, my motivation for applying, and my availability. He explained the distinctions between armed and unarmed security roles. A significant portion of the interview was dedicated to discussing DSI's reputation and its community impact, showing his pride in the company. He made me feel comfortable and provided a comprehensive overview of the training and responsibilities associated with being a team member.

I found out about this job from a DSI ad and applied because they were hiring locally. I was hired quickly. The ad mentioned $7.75 an hour, which seemed okay. However, after being hired, I had to pay for part of my uniform, $125 for my training, $20 for a drug test, $30 for a company background check, and another $30 for a background check for my supervisor, plus $15 for fingerprints. I had to go to the county jail for the fingerprinting. My starting wage was minimum wage until a 'performance review,' after which I could potentially earn $7.75. The job itself was at a very smelly chicken processing factory in Dobson, NC. I wasn't really doing security; it was more like a glorified desk job. I had to log every incoming truck, collect company and driver details, truck and trailer numbers, seal numbers, and bill of lading numbers. Then I had to check inside each trailer, which were often covered in chicken fluids. For new drivers, I had to make them sign a hold harmless form. All this information had to be written by hand in two separate logs, and then collected again when the truck left. We usually had 35-40 trucks per shift. On top of that, I had to maintain a daily activity report, a log of interactions with janitors, and a visitor log, issuing passes to about 20 visitors per shift and collecting them upon exit. I also had to check the IDs of hundreds of employees entering each shift. At shift change, I had to direct traffic, and there was a risk of getting run over by a truck or an employee. They treated any mistake in logging information as a major issue. The guard post constantly smelled of chicken fluids. We didn't get any breaks and had to bring our own food, hoping for a chance to eat. I'm a full-time student looking for extra cash for tuition and books, and this minimum wage job was absolutely not worth it.
