Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DS Smith.

I had three online interviews. First, HR and the manager introduced themselves. Second, I did an assessment with the manager. Finally, I had a short interview with the manager's manager.
- Can you tell me about your background and previous work experience?

The interview process started with a phone call with HR for an initial screening. After that, there was an Excel task, and then a video interview with the hiring manager. The manager asked me behaviour-based questions. She ended the interview by saying she felt I lacked sufficient PMO experience, which I thought was unwarranted based on maybe just one question. Since it's been over 3 weeks with no communication, I'm assuming I didn't get the job. I find this quite unprofessional. Candidates spend a lot of time preparing, customizing their answers for each company, finishing the Excel task, and then getting ghosted? I didn't even get a rejection email, let alone feedback! It makes me question how employees are treated there. The company and its representatives should be presenting themselves well, not just me, and this approach suggests they don't value their people. Improve your process.
- Could you explain your understanding of what PMO signifies?
- What would you consider your primary strengths to be?
- Can you discuss your weaknesses?

Had a one hour phone screen with the hiring manager, who was really nice. Took a whole month to get to the in-person interview with him and another team member. After the phone screen, I thought I had it in the bag, but meeting the hiring manager in person gave me a weird feeling. They showed me around the plant for an hour. When it was time to leave, they seemed eager to get me out, and I'd only been there two hours. Basically, I didn't get the job because of one question I supposedly got wrong, which was the same question they asked on the phone screen where I answered it the same way. The way it ended felt really unprofessional and rude. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't get hired.
- Tell me about a project that didn't succeed.
