Manufacturing Engineer
This interview was a while ago so details are hazy. It seemed to go well, they followed up and planned a second interview, then nothing happened. They asked general questions about my experience and accomplishments. They also asked if I had specific skills from the job description and which were my strongest and weakest. The interview had five or six people from different departments to see where I'd fit best. I ended up telling them I didn't want to go into sales or do a certain program they had, so they hired a friend instead. They never told me I wasn't being considered.
- Tell me about your work experience.
- What are you most proud of?
- Do you possess the skills required for this role as outlined in the job posting?
Producer / General Manager
The hiring process starts with a quick screening interview to see if you're a good fit for the next steps. If you are, you'll be invited to a resort for a two-night interview process. The first day and night involve meeting current EMAPS and learning about what the interviews will be like. The next day kicks off early. You'll wake up and head to the Dresser-Rand manufacturing site to see the products being made. Afterwards, you'll return to the resort for a series of interviews and a group project. Most of the interviews are pretty relaxed, and the group project is enjoyable. After all the interviews, there's a group dinner with all the EMAP candidates and interviewers. Following dinner, you'll face a surprise challenge to see how you react. The next morning, you'll give a 20-minute presentation based on that surprise. Once that's done, you can head home.
- Tell me about the most difficult and unexpected question you've encountered.
- How would you address a management issue that requires correction?
- Describe a scenario with no clear right answer and how you navigated it.
Engineering Management Acceleration Program
Getting into the EMAP program is tough, mostly starting at college career fairs at specific schools. You gotta be memorable and have a great resume to get noticed in just a few minutes. If you make a good impression, you'll get a 2:1 panel interview, either that day or the next. It's pretty standard but competitive, so be yourself, give specific answers, and interview well. You'll hear back in a few days. If you advance, you'll be invited to a multi-day "Assessment Center" in Western NY with others from your school. This includes panel interviews, group discussions, and presentations. You'll also get a facility tour and enjoy good food. There's a reception where you can socialize. The CEO might even give a short presentation. After the assessment, you'll know about an offer in a day or two.

Engineering Management Acceleration Program
I applied through my university's career site and they reached out for an interview on campus. It was with a global manager and HR. They mostly asked 'Tell us about yourself' and 'Why do you want to work at Dresser-Rand?'. Make sure you can sell yourself because you might not get another chance. I got rejected via email within an hour, so make a strong first impression because they won't overthink it for the second interview. The interviewers seemed to really love the company.
