Dremio Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process was pretty quick, taking about 2 weeks in total and was a good experience. It had 3 one-on-one interviews with my potential manager, some senior team folks, and the CRO. There was also a technical task to do at home and present later. The hands-on technical task was the best part, letting me play with Dremio's product. It gave me freedom to show how I handle technical tasks and also taught me a lot about Dremio. I left with a clear understanding of its market position and how it fits into a customer's data strategy. I spent about 2 hours preparing the task. The technical task mainly checked my Python and SQL skills, plus my ability to deploy and configure Dremio in Linux using provided instructions. A guide on using Dremio was also given, and I had to create simple reports based on functional and non-functional requirements, like a view showing X, Y, Z that should respond within 1 second. I had ample time to finish it.

The whole experience was really disappointing. It involved 5 technical interviews, each lasting an hour and focusing on a different topic. After all these interviews, the team met to discuss. I received positive feedback after each interview, but ultimately, they decided not to move forward, citing a lack of experience despite my 9 years in the exact field required. It felt like a huge waste of time, considering the 5 hours of interviews and an unrelated live coding exercise. Also, the expectations were managed terribly.

So I started with a screening with HR, then talked to the hiring manager. After that, there were 4 more rounds with people I'd be working with. Three of those were more about chatting and seeing if I'd fit in, like soft skills stuff. The other one was a live coding session where I had to do some Python and SQL. The whole team seemed super nice and helpful, not just to judge me but to help me out. Overall it was a good experience. It was pretty intense, but they moved fast, and I had an offer in about a month.

The whole process had 5 interviews in total. It started with a recruiter screening, then two coding interviews, one for LeetCode and one for design. After that, there were two hiring manager interviews focused on behavioral questions. The recruiter was super responsive and got the interviews scheduled fast because I was on a tight deadline. They gave me some study materials and advice on how to prep for the different interviews. Everyone I talked to was really nice. It also seems like they customize the process, as I interviewed with a second hiring manager because they thought I might be a better fit for their team.
