I had a phone screen with HR first, then a phone case study about basic probability and statistics. After that, there was a virtual case study analyzing train station demand. The hiring manager then conducted a general behavioral interview. The final round involved a case study with a second-level manager where we looked at app screenshots and walked through a live A/B test. The whole thing felt really impersonal, like they were just reading from a script for the case studies, which made it seem like they only want people who think exactly like them. That was frustrating. I declined the offer because it was at the lowest end of the salary range with no room for negotiation. The sign-on bonus was also tiny, and they offered no remote work flexibility even though the hiring manager and team are remote. The recruiter was good, but the overall experience was poor.

The interview process had about 5 rounds, which included several case studies. My main issue was with the recruiter, who initially said the salary range had recently changed and then attempted to offer me a lower amount. After I agreed to a reduced range and completed the series of interviews, she contacted me again before the final interview to propose an even lower range. I found this to be unethical and indicative of poor company practices. I decided not to proceed, even though I could have negotiated for the original range, because the experience left a negative impression and suggested potential future issues with management and employee treatment.

The case study was a bit challenging to complete over the phone and on the spot, and I felt the questions could have been clearer. I didn't get the job in the end, and the feedback was that while my answers were correct, it took me a bit longer to get to them, and I made an arithmetic error, even though I caught it myself. They were professional and the process was organized. I appreciated the feedback from HR, which isn't always the case. I understand why I wasn't offered the role, and my responses could have been more concise.
