Social Media Manager
I was contacted on LinkedIn by HR for an interview. I was really motivated to learn more. After three rounds of interviews, I didn't hear back. I would have thought after talking to 4 people, I'd get an email about the job status. I followed up twice via email, but nothing. I guess I don't want to work for a company that treats people like that. Also, Dose doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. They talked about wanting to be like Buzzfeed, which isn't promising. Companies are successful because they're unique, not by copying others. It would be hard to work for a company that doesn't know itself.
- How would you manage our Snapchat account?
Associate Editor
I found this gig on Craigslist and got an email about three weeks later to schedule a phone interview. It was set up for the next week. I hadn't prepared for it at all, so I decided to just wing it. The HR person called about five minutes after the scheduled time and let me know it wouldn't take long. She compared their company to Buzzfeed and said they were aiming to be like them, which threw me off. She didn't seem too excited about finding someone. She asked if I'd looked at their websites, and I said yes even though I hadn't heard of their main sites, only GivesMeHope, but that was years ago. She then asked what I'd improve on their websites, but I had no recommendations since I didn't know what they looked like. I didn't get the vibe that I would get an in-person interview, but I wasn't too upset because the pay/position/company didn't excite me much. She said I'd hear back via email about an in-person interview, but it's been weeks and I still haven't heard back. Unprofessional. The interview would have been easy if I'd prepared even a little. Overall, it was a long process from application to the phone interview setup.

Creative/Editorial Position
This interview process felt like it dragged on way too long, taking about two months from when I applied until I heard back. It started with a phone interview that lasted about 15 minutes. A few days later, I had an in-person interview which was about two hours long. The phone interview was just with HR, but the in-person one involved HR, the Content VP, and the Productivity Manager. They all asked the same questions, which was pretty repetitive. The Content VP seemed really rushed and a bit rude, like they had more important things to do. It wasn't a very friendly chat. The HR person and Productivity Manager were nice and easy to talk to, though. The office is easy to get to, close to the brown/purple line. If you drive, expect to pay $20-30 for parking, which they don't cover. I got an offer later that week but turned it down. The company is pretty new, and I didn't get a sense that they were very organized, plus working for the VP of Content didn't seem like a good fit since they weren't very personable.
- Can you tell me about accomplishments you're proud of?
- How did you handle past challenges?
- Describe a time you rectified a mistake.
Junior Test Engineer
So I did a code challenge first, had like 48 hours to do it and it took me about half a day. Then the onsite was pretty standard, chatted with HR, then a Senior QA dev who had me do some algorithm stuff on a whiteboard. After that, I met with a Senior Full Stack Dev and we did a challenge where I had to build a data structure. Finally, I talked to the CTO and answered a more conceptual coding question. There were also behavioral questions mixed in throughout.
- How would you approach working with a programming language you're not familiar with?
