First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DornerWorks.
Embedded Systems Engineer
So first there was this 30 min chat with HR. Then I had a 1-hour Teams call with 2 engineers, they asked me some C questions and a few easy coding problems. After that, I had a 2-hour onsite. The first hour was a behavioral chat with a program manager, and the second hour was with an engineer, which was supposed to be technical but it turned out to be more behavioral.
- Why are you the best candidate for this position compared to others?
Hardware Engineer
The interview with DornerWorks started 30 minutes late, and they didn't apologize, even seeming to find it funny. Because of the time crunch, the questions were pretty basic. I quickly lost interest due to the unprofessional interview process.
- Can you describe your previous work experiences?
Embedded Software Engineer
I had a quick HR phone chat, then a phone interview with the Senior Embedded Software Engineer. He asked me basic C questions. HR said they weren't moving forward because I didn't 'fit the culture'. This role has been open for years. Four years later, I'm working for a customer of the company that rejected me, fixing sloppy code from that same engineer. Their former customer is now mine.
- Questions about basic C programming, such as pointer usage.
Software Engineer
It was a really thorough process. They asked a bunch of questions to see if I knew my stuff and if I'd fit in, covering problem-solving, technical skills, and cultural alignment. I talked with a couple of people who would be my peers and also the PMs. They even showed us around the company at the end.
- Can you share an instance of your greatest failure?
- Tell me about your biggest mistake.
- What's your most significant failure?
