Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DoorLoop.
Software Engineer
I had a really good time interviewing here. The process involved 4 different stages, where they checked my technical abilities and how I communicate. One part was about frontend stuff, like talking about React hooks and JavaScript best practices, and also a short live coding challenge. Another part was about backend skills, which included an assignment where I had to build a Node.js server and work with databases. They also had some general chats about my past experiences to see how I communicate.
- Discuss JS and React best practices.
- Explain React hooks.
- Perform a live coding task in React.
Software Developer
HR interview was very nice and informative. CTO's interview was online. Overall nice. The only available given time was in the middle of the day, so I had to take it as a part vacation time. Some questions regarding hooks, some regarding coding together. I was given a home assignment with instruction it should not take more then 2-3 hours. Questions were good and some average. Assignment is a large project, not really can be done in 3 hours. I uploaded the assignment of the available time I had. Basic app that did the overall requirements. Never heard from them, until way after. I did not got acknowledge of project received. Did not got feedback. Did not got notice of rejection in the expected time.
- Can you explain what a react hook is
Software Engineer
I did a take home that was supposed to take 2-3 hours, but the CTO seemed surprised I only spent that much time on it. He did move me to the next round, though. That round, he was pretty rude and wanted me to answer questions from memory without using Google. It was so rude I almost hung up, but I stuck with it. The questions weren't too hard, it just didn't make sense to interview that way.
- Can you explain what a custom hook is and provide a specific way to describe it?
- Could you please write a custom hook and go into some detail about its implementation?
