First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DONAN.
Forensic Engineer
Had a phone chat with HR/recruiter. Then a phone call with the regional manager. Followed by a Teams meeting with both the regional and territory manager. It was all pretty chill and informative. No curveballs, they just wanted to see if my background was a good match for the job.
- Can you tell me about your experience with both residential and commercial structures?
Forensic Engineer
It was pretty quick, like how fast you moved onto the next step depended on how you did in the interview. Got feedback right away and an email about what was next. I talked to HR, then my regional manager, and then the territorial manager. The last interview was a Teams video call.
- Tell me about a challenging client interaction you had.
- From the client's perspective, how do you think you should have been treated in that difficult situation?
Mechanical Engineer
Applied for a Forensic Mechanical Engineer position, originally advertised as full-time but turned out to be part-time, which HR was unaware of. I had a 15-minute phone call with HR and then another 15-minute call with the Hiring Manager. HR suggested looking into a similar job in an adjacent state. Then, I had a phone interview with the Regional Manager to get more details about the job. They also had me take a computer literacy test and a personality quiz. Since the regional manager couldn't meet in person, I was scheduled to meet another regional manager. I was flown to a third state to meet this Regional Manager (not the hiring manager) for an interview, with a morning flight there and an evening flight back. After the interview, they asked me to complete a Word document test related to forensic engineering, which seemed like writing a report. I didn't complete it. Two days later, HR called with a verbal offer, even though I hadn't met the hiring manager. The offer included $80,000 annual salary, work from home, a company vehicle, a company phone, straight time for hours over 36, profit sharing bonus in February, and $5k relocation. The offer was rescinded the next day because I didn't have the required license in the new state, despite me clearly stating I didn't. It was a dysfunctional process; HR and managers seemed clueless, but it might be a good company overall.
- Tell me about yourself and other basic behavioral questions.
- Can you walk me through your resume in detail?
Forensic Engineer
It started with a phone interview with an HR person, then there was some online testing. After that, I had a phone interview with an engineering manager. The last step was flying to Louisville KY for an in-person panel interview. Donan paid for travel expenses, but the full day wasn't paid.
- Regarding the sample forensic engineering report, how fast could you write it?
- What are your salary expectations?
- Would you be willing to sign a non-compete agreement that prevents you from working as a Forensic Engineer for 18 months after your employment ends?
