The interview process was clean and pretty straightforward. It started with a web-based step, followed by a questionnaire, and then a Zoom meeting. The interview questions felt appropriate for an analyst role, with a strong emphasis on Excel and databases. The benefits offered seemed reasonable. The interviewer on Zoom was dynamic, intelligent, friendly, and conducted the interview in a very organized manner.

So I applied for the Associate Business System Analyst role at Dominion Energy, and it took them about two weeks to get back to me. They set up an in-person interview for me at their Richmond, VA office. It was interesting because there was only one interview round, and it was about 15 days after they first reached out. On the interview day, they interviewed three people each day for three days, so there were 9 people interviewed for the position overall. The interview itself was a panel with four interviewers, which was a good experience. The panel had the HR manager and three associate business system analysts from the previous year. The three analysts asked most of the questions and took notes as I answered. The questions were mostly about my behavioral experiences from school and internships, with some questions about my IT background. They also asked one brain teaser question. The interview felt pretty relaxed and laid-back. After it was over, the HR interviewer said they'd make a decision the next week because they were interviewing those three days. But then, that's where it got frustrating and negative for me. I didn't hear anything back the next week (two weeks of no response). I tried calling the person from the Talent Acquisition Team who set up my interview, but still no updates (called twice over two days, before and after lunch, with no answer). Feeling stuck, I emailed them, saying I had another offer and needed a response. Finally, I got an email saying my message would be passed to the recruiter, who I hadn't talked to yet. I contacted the recruiter and explained about the pending offer. They said a decision would be made by the end of that week, or sooner. That didn't happen either. On Friday evening, I was in a tough spot. The recruiter had an out-of-office reply at 4:30 pm (three weeks after the interview). Looking back, I guess my follow-ups might have seemed pushy, which could have hurt my chances. In the end, after waiting 22 days, I finally got a simple rejection. Even with the long wait and uncertainty, Dominion Energy still left a positive impression on me from the interview itself. It's a shame because I was really interested in the job and the company. But the poor communication made it tough. I just wanted some closure, a clear answer to help me decide my next career move. A yes or no, any clear answer would have helped me figure out my options and make good decisions. If I were to give advice, I'd say be ready for a longer process, maybe a month and a half. The interview was good and showed the company's strengths, but the communication part is something to consider.

Had a quick phone chat first, then they brought me in for an in-person interview. They asked me some behavioral questions, and then we talked more casually about my resume and what I've done before. The whole thing was about an hour long. They called me the following week with an offer.
