& Process

I interviewed with the manager and met the COO. The interview felt rushed and they seemed uninterested. They mostly asked general questions and talked about all the "extras" they offer. It didn't seem like they were focused on making the workplace kind or thorough.

The school reached out and invited me for a three-day interview process. I was fully immersed in school life and had several interviews with different people in various positions. The school was very accommodating.

The interview process at SE guide dogs was long and convoluted. I went through three interviews with the head veterinarian (one by phone, one in person, and one working interview). After that, I interviewed with an administrator. They informed me that the head veterinarian was stepping back within a month of starting and I would be the head veterinarian in charge, which was a shock as it would change the on-call hours I anticipated. I was also told the salary would be 110K, lower than I expected. I had a final interview with the CEO and the same administrator. I was given the offer for 110K annual with 6 months of on call and soon to be head vet in charge. I tried to counter offer for a higher salary due to the increased responsibility but was denied. They said this was the salary and they wouldn't consider a counter offer, but might consider a raise in 6 months (unofficially). I declined the offer because the last interview left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't feel respected. SE guide dogs seemed like an interesting position and I have nothing bad to say about the veterinary staff. I did review their past ten years of non-profit tax returns and felt the offer was below what they had previously given vets, especially for the increased responsibility.

So I had one interview for the volunteer coordinator role. The person who was leaving the position conducted the interviews. She actually tried to reschedule our interview twice, and I had to remind her both times. Once we finally talked, she asked me three really basic questions that wouldn't really help her differentiate candidates. It was pretty disappointing for an organization that seems so put together.
