Docker Product Designer Interview Questions
& Process

I had a 30min screening interview with the internal recruiter. Then an interview with the hiring manager to talk about high level experience and design approach. After that, a 60 min interview with a panel of designers for a portfolio review, and two 45-min interviews with the Product manager and engineering manager.

Went through 7 interviews and then heard nothing on the day I was told I would be informed. Had to reach out to the recruiter for an update and then was given a one sentence response that I wasn’t selected. After 7 interviews. I can understand if you didn’t feel I was the one for the position, I was disappointed as I spent countless hours researching the company and product, preparing for interviews, and was really excited about the company and position. But come on. If you’re going to put somebody through 7 interviews, at least have the decency of picking up the phone and giving me some feedback. I was crushed I wasn’t selected, but maybe it’s a good thing in the end. If that’s how you treat a candidate who has put that much into your interview process, maybe you’re not great to work for.

The process kicked off with a recruiter who made some promising statements, acknowledging the current job market and assuring timely communication. Following this, a hiring manager interview took place, which seemed to go well. The next step was a presentation round, but there was a significant delay in scheduling it, requiring me to follow up with the recruiter multiple times. Once the date was set, I spent several days preparing thoroughly. The recruiter then became unresponsive after booking the interview, offering no guidance on what to focus on. During the presentation, one interviewer mentioned that many candidates fail because they don't showcase the underlying work, a crucial detail I wasn't informed about beforehand, leading me to prepare a generic presentation. I could have presented several Murals if I had known this expectation. The interviewers appeared uninterested and dismissive of my work, concluding with only a couple of questions, and the second interviewer asked very few. After this, I experienced a prolonged period of silence for weeks, after which I was informed the role was being closed. Despite my relevant experience, including with Docker, their focus was narrow, and they showed no interest in my background, which felt like a closed-minded approach. The lack of professionalism was very disappointing.
