First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Doane University.
Assistant Professor
I was interviewed for a journalism/media professor position. The day was pretty long, which started off great with the dean and chairman of the search committee being nice. But one professor was really difficult, asking tough questions and making me feel awkward all day in different interview groups. I had to prepare a sample lesson and a faculty presentation. Only three students showed up for the lesson, and all the faculty committee members were there, so it wasn't a realistic class setting. I spent 10 hours prepping, and one professor was really critical of my ideas. It was a bad experience. Lunch with two students was disorganized because no one knew where to go. After lunch, I had to find the presentation building myself, and it was raining. The day ended with a golf cart tour in the rain with a student who was late and didn't seem to know about the tour. This was the Monday before Thanksgiving, and I never heard back at all. I emailed the admin assistant in early January, and she said the dean said it was still undecided. I saw yesterday on their website that the previous person is back in the role, which explains it. Honestly, after how I was treated, I didn't even want the job, but their lack of follow-up was really unprofessional. Doane's whole process seemed unorganized.

Director of Financial Aid
The communication and overall process were pretty bad. Basically, the committee just talked about how awful Doane is and all the stuff they need to fix. They kept changing the timeline for when they'd make a decision. There was no communication, and then nobody even bothered to follow up and tell me I wasn't selected. Honestly, I'm kind of glad I didn't get the job, sounds like there are a lot of internal issues there.
- Can you share some experiences that have prepared you for this position?
Computer Support Specialist
Had a 30-minute phone interview, then was asked to interview on campus. I wasn't given any directions on where to meet, so I had to call to find out. After the interview, I got a 30-minute tour. Received an email about a reference check saying I was a top candidate. Then no reply for 3-4 weeks. I emailed the interviewer with no reply for another week. Finally called HR and was told the position had been filled.
- What is the file type for APPLE downloads?
Adjunct Teacher
It was a really simple interview, the people were nice, I have no complaints at all.
- Could you tell me about the classes you've previously taught at other schools?
