First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DLA Piper.
Trainee Solicitor
I was invited to London. The day is split into a group exercise, a partner interview and a presentation. The Group Exercise is a very standard, typical exercise. If you do bring people in, focus on the time, demonstrate good commercial knowledge, you will be fine. The interview was more weird. It was called a 'strengths' based interview (I think). I have been used to delivering a STAR response, and talking about my own experiences, but the questions are engineered in a way not to provoke such responses (ie no tell me about a time you have demonstrated xyz competency). As such, I had to work quite hard to work in my knowledge, whilst answering the questions. The presentation is again fairly typical. In terms of advice, structure is number one so make sure the structure is clearly signposted at the beginning.
- Regarding a late piece of work, would you prioritize rushing to meet the deadline or delivering a high-quality response, even if it means being late?
Trainee Solicitor
The interview process was mostly about competency-based questions, where they asked for examples of times I'd shown certain skills. They also asked the usual questions, like 'why DLA?'. I also got to ask questions at the end. The interviewer mentioned their department, and I asked some questions related to their work, and we chatted about it for about 5-10 minutes.
- What are your motivations for seeking employment at DLA Piper?
- Could you share an instance where you exhibited a specific skill?
- Tell me about a situation where you demonstrated a particular competency.

Submitted an online application form. The hiring process has two steps. The first interview was a standard personal interview. The second was an assessment day, which included two written tests, a presentation to a few partners and the rest of the applicants (around 20 people in total), and another interview.
- If you could invite seven people, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be?
