Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DLA Piper.
Intern
Went through an online Watson Glaser test followed by an in-person assessment centre. It included a group task and a partner interview. Pretty standard stuff, nothing unexpected. Spent a good amount of time with HR and other candidates, but it felt like we were constantly being observed.
- What makes DLA Piper stand out from other firms to you?
Intern
The selection process was pretty organized and well-laid out. It started with reviewing my resume overall. Then, there were written tests where I had to answer questions like 'why do you want to be a lawyer?' and 'why DLA Piper?'. After that, I had to take written English tests on a specific platform, followed by a phone interview in English. If that went well, there was an interview with HR, and if successful, a final interview with the partners of the department I was interested in.
- What makes you want to pursue a career as a lawyer?
- What led you to choose DLA Piper?
- What are the current challenges faced by a business law firm?
Summer Vacation Scheme
The interview process included an initial HR interview (20 minutes) covering why DLA, past experiences, and some general questions about hobbies. Following that, there was an assessment centre that lasted about 4-5 hours and was conducted virtually. It had three parts: a group discussion on improving the firm's services, a 30-minute partner interview focusing on CV and behavioral questions, and an individual presentation where a case file was provided with an hour to prepare, with a strong emphasis on commercial awareness.
- In the partner interview, would you choose to sacrifice work quality to meet a deadline, or push back on the deadline to deliver higher quality work?
