Was called in for 2 rounds of interviews for a Sales role. Interviewers seemed nice at first but ended up wasting my time because they said I was missing a skill that was needed for the job, which they didn't mention upfront. They didn't give me any feedback on what they thought was missing, just that. HR was also really dismissive and rude. I wouldn't apply for another job here.

The interview process was pretty simple and I thought it was good overall. It started with a screening interview, and then I was supposed to have a Zoom call with the head of the department. But when I logged on, he wasn't there, so I ended up meeting with his manager instead. We mostly talked about his vision for the department, and he asked me a couple of questions. I got offered the job the week after, but I turned it down because the base salary was much lower than what's typical for this kind of role. They said Portland, Maine doesn't support high salaries, but honestly, the cost of living there is so high that it wouldn't have worked for me. It seems like a great company though, apart from the low pay.

I went through two interviews, one with HR and another with the person I would report to. It was a nice vibe, both interviews. HR was upfront about salary, which I liked, and asked specific things about my past jobs. The other interview was more of a chat about the company and the job. I liked that I could talk about the project a lot, instead of just answering basic questions. My main worry about the job, even though I didn't say it, was the pay, which was about 15-20% less than other similar jobs. I also wondered if they'd be able to hire good developers for the project if needed. I had some doubts about their work culture too, but generally, I felt good about it. They ended up promoting someone from within, so I didn't get an offer.

I had a screening interview. I think the person who called me was from HR. They asked me some basic questions. Everything was fine until they asked me how many hours I currently work. I work full-time, so 40 hours. That's pretty standard, right? Well, apparently not. My interviewer plainly stated that all their managers work over 50 hours a week and that it was expected. I was silent. It's clear my lack of response wasn't what she was looking for since I didn't get invited for an in-person interview, but honestly, I feel like I dodged a bullet. I still can't believe she admitted upfront that the candidate would be overworked during the phone screening, but here's your warning. If you want to live and breathe your workplace, this might be the job for you! It definitely wasn't for me and I'm ultimately grateful I didn't hear back for round two.
