First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Disruptive Advertising.
Digital Marketing Specialist
I had two interviews. The first one was really bad, I almost didn't go back. There were two guys interviewing me, and then a third guy walked in and just went on a long rant about his wife, ending with a comment to me that was pretty inappropriate. The other interviewers didn't do anything about it, and we just kept going. I left feeling gross about the place. I still went to the second interview though, hoping it was just a weird situation. That one went fine, and then I met with the CEO one-on-one. I got the job. But interactions with that one guy were always bad, and since he was in with the higher-ups, I couldn't really complain.
- Can you tell me about your first job?
Content Specialist
This interview process had quite a few steps. It started with a Predictive Index Assessment. Then, I had a group culture screen with six other people, some of whom were interviewing for a different role. It felt like a "vibe check" about personal growth and values. They mentioned a leadership book requirement for the final interview and that new hires need to drop freelance clients or sign an NDA. Next, I had a second interview with the hiring manager focusing on role responsibilities and goals. After that, I got two skills assessments: editing a blog post and writing a 500-word blog post. Following that, I met with an SEO team member to discuss the assessments, but it turned into more of a culture/values/team fit chat, with only a few minutes on my writing sample. A few days later, I found out I didn't make it to the final interview. I asked the recruiter for feedback but didn't hear back, which was a bit surprising given how responsive they were initially.
- How do you prioritize your own personal growth?
- If you could realize and live out your full potential, where would you be in the next 2-3 years?
- Which of our values do you resonate with most?
Staff Accountant
I applied online. Then I got an email to do a quick test where I had to pick adjectives that describe the job and myself. A few days later, another email came asking me to pick a time for an interview. It was a group interview with others, focusing more on culture, personality, and goals rather than skills or work experience. I felt I did well, but a couple of days later, I got an email saying they'd go with another candidate. From what I gathered, if I had moved forward, there would have been 3 more interviews with different managers, and then I'd get a book about the company culture to study before they'd hire me.
- What are your career aspirations for the next 2-3 years?
- In what ways do you pursue personal development?
- What motivated your application to this role?
SEO Specialist
I applied online and got an email about a week later saying I wouldn't move forward. Then, seven hours later, someone from Disruptive contacted me on LinkedIn for an introductory interview, unaware I'd already been rejected. Since interviews are rare, I set it up. It was about 10-15 minutes, possibly recorded on Zoom, which felt more like a phone screening. They explained the role, asked if I was still interested, and outlined the rest of the process. Despite the communication mix-up, I noted some red flags.
