First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Discovery Education.
Data Scientist
It was 5 rounds total, including one on A/B testing, one general data science round, and a take-home exam that involved a business case and data analysis. They also had a presentation for the take-home exam. The interviews felt pretty easy, with more focus on data science concepts than Machine Learning Engineering style questions.
- Can you walk me through the A/B testing process? Also, can you answer questions about your experience with a real A/B test?
Account Manager
The interview process was quite particular and the role kept changing. It even went on pause for a bit and then changed again. The recruiter wasn't great at letting me know where we were in the process. It felt like there was always one more interview to go. In the end, I was told they weren't hiring for that position anymore because the team structure was being reorganized.
- Can you explain how your experience matches this role and the company?
Project Manager
The HR recruiter was late joining the phone interview, rushed me through 3 opening questions, and before even explaining the role in detail with me, realized she was running late for another meeting and had to quickly end our call. The recruiter expressed the interest in wanting to call me back at a later date to finish our conversation where we left off. This proved she only allocated 30 minutes for my introductory interview and seeing that she did not end our call until 5 minutes after she realized she was running late, she will also arrive late to her next meeting. Her unprofessional and unorganized behavior did not come off appealing for a candidate who is assessing if this company is the right move for their career. After that experience I chose not to move forward with pursuing my interest in this organization.
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Can you summarize your experience relevant to this position?
- How much do you know about project management infrastructures?
Marketing Analyst
I was contacted by a third-party recruiting agency about an SEO position. They set up an interview with the hiring manager. We had to reschedule the interview time because of travel, and it ended up being VERY rushed. I was really looking forward to this opportunity after a bad experience with the first recruiter, and I really wanted to move forward with this company. I sent a thank-you email, but she cut me off and asked if I had more questions because she only had two minutes. This surprised me because other interviewers have been okay with going a bit over time. I never heard back. She seemed too focused on her travel, and I would have preferred to reschedule for another day if that was the case. It's too bad I had two bad interview experiences with a company I thought would be great to work for. The first recruiter really hyped up the phone screening, saying how perfect I'd be for the role, but then they didn't follow through. Very disappointing.
