It started with a recruiter screen, then a chat with the hiring manager. After that, I had a take-home skills assessment. It had two marketing scenarios, and they wanted to see how I would roll out features and experiments successfully.

First up was a quick 30 min call with the recruiter. Then, I had a 30 min chat with the hiring manager. After that, I got a take-home case study. The task was to figure out how to add a news feed to Discord to make more new customers stick around and engage. The recruiter mentioned it usually takes about 1-2 weeks to finish, but there wasn't a hard deadline. Then I had to present my take-home assessment to a panel. Finally, there was an on-site panel interview.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

It was a pretty long interview process, taking over a month and more than two full days of work. It started with an intro call with talent, then a call with the hiring manager. After that, I had a take-home assignment which was about 5 pages long and included mockups/wireframes. This was followed by another call with the hiring manager. Then came a 6-hour "in-person" interview with a big panel of people from marketing, engineering, and analytics. Since the team is remote, it was done via video on Discord. After that, there was another 1-hour follow-up interview with an additional panel member. Discord was good about keeping me updated and was transparent, and overall it felt like a positive experience, though it was very long and involved. They even added some extra steps, like a final interview with another panel member, so keep in mind that the initial framework might change. The biggest downside is definitely the length and the amount of work required; it's not really fair to expect candidates to give up 5 weeks and several full days of their time, as this seemed like the quickest it could possibly have gone. I was rejected after the final stage via phone, but I appreciated not getting a generic rejection after such a lengthy process. They said there wasn't a specific better candidate, but the interview process would continue with new people.
