Customer Experience Associate
I was really excited about the Customer Experience Associate role in Amsterdam, especially since I've always admired Discord. After applying, the Talent Acquisition Manager reached out and we had a good chat about my background and why I was interested. They seemed keen to move forward, so a hiring manager interview was scheduled. The chat with the hiring manager was okay, but it felt a bit disorganized, with frequent interruptions and tangents, and only about 30 minutes to talk about myself. The next day, I got a rejection email with no reason. I even followed up twice asking for feedback but was completely ignored, which was super disappointing since Discord is my dream company and I thought I was a good fit. I was hoping for at least some feedback to help me improve.

Customer Experience Associate
The interview process included 4 stages and took about 2 months. I applied through LinkedIn and was contacted through email about 2 weeks later. Stages included a phone call with a recruiter, an interview with the hiring manager, a skills test, and a panel interview. The interview with the HM and panel were very behavioral interviewing focused. The people who work at Discord are super nice and love to have an organic conversation! Just try to relax and be yourself., they really appreciate someone who is just being true to themselves.
- Can you share an instance where you had to troubleshoot an issue? What was the outcome?

Customer Experience Associate
I submitted my application online in early July. About three weeks later, a recruiter reached out for an initial screening. The whole process had 4 main parts: first, the recruiter call, then an interview with the Hiring Manager, followed by a skills test, and finally a virtual interview panel with several people in related roles, which was the replacement for the usual on-site. The recruiter and hiring manager calls went well. I was curious about what a skills test would involve for a customer service role. It turned out to be working through some example tickets and explaining my thought process. The multi-stage interview, which replaced the on-site due to the pandemic, happened over Discord. It started and ended with chats with the hiring manager and recruiter. The interviewers were either former employees or people in roles closely connected to the position or teams. They asked questions about my skills, and also about the company's mission, values, and philosophy. As expected, everything was conducted on Discord because of the pandemic. They even sent a DoorDash coupon for lunch during the break, which was a nice touch. I really liked how the interview process gave me a better understanding of my own skills and myself. Discussing my interest in Discord and my belief in its mission of fostering communities and connections helped me clarify my customer service philosophy and the value of a people-first approach. This gave me more insight and confidence. One thing I wish was different is that I'd liked to have had more opportunity at the end to clarify things I'd said earlier to other interviewers, or to add any new thoughts I had about philosophy or my approach.
