First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DILLER SCOFIDIO + RENFRO.
Architect
I met with a senior member of the project team. They asked me questions about my current job and how I'd fit the role. We looked at my college portfolio and past projects, and I showed them drawing sets from jobs I've done before.
- What's your experience level with CDs?
- What experience do you have working on CDs?
Research and Editorial Assistant
The interview was for an intern role on the editorial team. It was pretty chill and mostly involved questions about my portfolio and graphic design work, which I expected. They asked straightforward questions about my experience and why I thought I'd be a good fit. It was a really good experience, especially since it was my first interview after grad school. Later on, I met with the whole editorial team, which made me a bit nervous because I felt like I was being intensely evaluated, but that was anticipated.
- Later, I was joined by all the members of the editorial team, and felt I was being critically analyzed.
- This was expected, however it just made me nervous.
Intern
After my friend who works there passed along my portfolio, I got a Skype interview right away. It was a quick chat, not a canned interview; they really wanted to know about my portfolio, not just do the usual 'what's your weakness?' type of questions.
- Could you pick a project from your portfolio and tell us about it?
- And why did you choose that particular project?
Senior Associate
It's a multi-step process to check skills and fit. It usually involves looking at the application, a phone screen, and then in-person interviews with managers and team folks. Not too bad.
- Is this your portfolio?
- Who was your professor?
