My initial interaction with Digital Trends involved a personality test, followed by a call with Janae, the HR Recruiter. She inquired extensively about my professional background and its relevance to the role. Subsequently, I was invited to a group interview the following week with Janae and two other Managers. The atmosphere was welcoming, and they posed pertinent questions to assess suitability. I also had the opportunity to ask my prepared questions. After sending thank you emails, Janae contacted me for a Zoom interview with the CTO, Dan. This conversation felt very relaxed, more like a casual chat with a few questions about the position interspersed. The final stage was a lunch with the team I would be collaborating with, designed to evaluate team fit. As an extrovert, I found this approach very genuine, and everyone seemed enthusiastic about working at Digital Trends.

There were a lot of interviews (total of 4 interviews with 5 people), but they were scheduled within a 2-week period so I didn't feel like I was trudging through a drawn out process. I first met with the hiring manager, then the immediate team, then a member of a different team who my role works closely with. I actually liked getting to meet everyone I would be working with on a day-to-day instead of just the hiring manager. When I accepted the role, I felt confident that I was joining a team I liked (and still do).

The interview process felt very conversational and provided a lot of information. I gained a good understanding of the company and the specific role, including the reasons behind hiring for this position and how I might fit into the company and team. We had open discussions about the expectations from the company, the team, and the role itself. I went through several interviews with different company members. While having to gather my nerves to repeat the interview process with each new person wasn't ideal, it did give me a better sense of the company culture. Beyond the interviews, I exchanged emails with the HR recruiter and the director I would report to. They were readily available to address any questions I had.

It honestly was horrible and slightly disrespectful. I had four interviews the first week, then there were crickets for four weeks! After an apology email, I met with a consultant from the department. She explained all about what has been going on (they fired the hiring manager), and there had been a reorg. Throughout this interview, she was trying to dismiss my capabilities and tried to downplay projects I worked on. It would've been a different story if they were transparent on the issues instead of having their candidates wait, and similarly if someone didn't dismiss my career and professional work. Not okay.
