I applied for the SEO Director job at Digital Silk and it seemed good at first. They sent a lot of questions asking about my skills, experience, past work, managing teams, and specific strategies I've used. I answered everything carefully, respecting NDAs, and sent my CV and LinkedIn. After that, I never heard back. No reply, no feedback, not even a notice about the next step - just nothing. I saw the same job posting kept getting reposted for months. It feels like they weren't really hiring but maybe fishing for ideas or info from candidates. It was super unprofessional and annoying. You spend time and effort answering detailed questions, expecting at least basic communication, and then get ghosted. It gives a really bad impression of how they treat people and shows no respect for time or expertise. They seem to lack transparency and professional communication, which is a bummer if you're looking for a serious and respectful hiring process.

The interview was pretty good, it involved a design task where I had to design a homepage based on a brief from the Head of Design. My task was to interpret the brief and also evaluate its quality. This meant I shouldn't follow the brief strictly because there were parts designed for me to identify issues and suggest better UX practices, as Digital Silk values expertise and the ability to advocate for what's right.

Submitted application, had an initial chat with a recruiter, then a test assignment, and finally met with the hiring manager. The final meeting was quite laughable, the manager, Milos Eric, who claims to be a serial entrepreneur, lacks basic people and hiring skills. After making an offer and asking my start date, I said two weeks. He then inquired why I couldn't start sooner given I was unemployed. I explained I had a health-related hospital appointment the following week and wanted to address that before starting, to which he replied, 'thank you, that's clear.' He then directly asked if I foresaw any prolonged health-related absences.

The whole interview thing was 3 interviews: first a call with the recruiter, then a tech interview with the person who would be my team lead, and finally a call with the owner. It wasn't super hard because they were just starting to grow their teams, so the entire process maybe took about 2 weeks. They really wanted me to start ASAP and even sent me onboarding stuff before I officially started, but that onboarding wasn't paid.
