This was a really quick process, just one round and I heard back fast. They went deep into my resume and asked some basic Python and SQL questions. The interviewers were nice, and overall it was a great experience.

The interview process was quite awkward. I initially thought the first interview was to learn more about the job, but it turned out to be with six other people, a mix of other lecturers and heads of department who acted as recruiters. After about 15 minutes of personal questions, there was a surprise technical test where each lecturer asked me questions specific to their domain. It was a bit disappointing that some lecturers were overly focused on their own areas.

It was a very unusual interview experience. I was applying for a senior position, and instead of discussing the role, the interviewer immediately asked me about universities and polytechnics in Singapore. I told her that as a foreigner, I wouldn't know them and that it's all easily searchable online. She acknowledged this and said HR would be in touch if I was selected, ending the interview without company intro or self-introduction. The odd questions started right away. Fortunately, I have three other offers to consider.

  • What are the names of all Singapore's polytechnics?

I had to fill out a questionnaire before talking to the interviewer. She was really unpleasant and picked apart everything I said. It felt like she already knew who she wanted to hire and was just going through the motions for some reason, or maybe that's just how things are at this company. I definitely wouldn't want to work for someone who was so negative right from the start.
