Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DICK'S Sporting Goods.
Cashier
The interview was pretty straightforward, with about 7 to 10 questions asked. It really focused on customer service skills. They asked things like, "What are your strengths and weaknesses?", "Give an example of overcoming a hardship.", and "Describe a time you made a suggestion for change."
- Can you share an instance where you overcame a difficulty?
- Tell me about a time you suggested a change.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Cashier
D Sporting Goods' interview process usually starts with a quick screening. After that, there are one or two interviews in person. They really focus on how you handle customers, work with others, and solve problems that come up. They'll also ask about sports you play and how you connect with what's important to them.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a stressful situation.
- What sports are you involved in?
- How do your personal values align with those of our company?
Cashier
I had three interviews, one phone call and two in-person. The phone interview was brief and focused on my availability. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview. Although I was nervous, they asked about 10 questions, split between two interviewers. The interviews were really nice and the questions were good. I felt it was a bit much for just a cashier position, but it went really well. My advice is to be open, take your time to think, and really draw on your previous experiences. They offered me the job on the spot.
- Tell me about a time you got negative feedback.
- Can you share an instance where you took the initiative?
- Describe a situation where you encountered an issue with a colleague and how you resolved it.
