Executive Assistant
My interview experience was good and I learned a lot about the core aspects of the role. It was helpful. The interview process was completed in a single day, with a strong focus on core responsibilities.
- Core questions
Administrative Assistant
I applied online and was referred by someone, and they needed to hire people fast. I put my resume on the Dick's Sporting Goods site for both the Admin Assistant and Apparel Sales Associate jobs. They rang me up a week later to set up an interview for the very next day. The person who called didn't know which job I applied for, so I got ready to interview for both the Sales Associate and Admin roles. When I got to the store, the Store Manager called me into her office. She asked me what positions I applied for and handed me some papers to fill out. The first and fourth pages had questions like: 'Describe a time where you had to deal with an emotional/angry person. How did you handle it?', 'Describe a time when you had to convince someone to trust you. What was the result?', and 'Describe a time you gave or received great customer service. What made it great?'. For each question, you had to use the 'situation, action, and result' template: explain the situation, what you did, and what happened because of your actions. The second and third pages were about a sport or activity you do. It asked when and how you started, what you learned, and a time you used your knowledge to help someone get better or buy something. During the interview, the manager asked about my Admin experience and my computer skills, mentioning they want proficiency in Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Payroll, though they'd train on the Payroll software. That was it for the interview questions. After the interview, I took a personality test, which concluded the interview process. Two days later, they called and asked about my organizational experience and for an example of when I missed a deadline, which was also on the paper they had me fill out earlier. They offered me the job on this call.
- How early would you be willing to arrive for your shift, and how late would you be willing to stay?
- Can you describe a time when you missed a deadline?
Administrative Assistant
They really prefer hiring younger and prettier individuals and tend to reject older or less attractive candidates. Sometimes they pass on great people simply because they don't connect with them. For instance, I witnessed a manager reject someone because they gave off a 'frat boy' vibe, and the manager really disliked that type.
- Can you tell me about a situation where you dealt with a customer complaint and how you handled it?
