Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DICK'S Sporting Goods.
Associate Producer
I was really excited for this interview, thinking it was the one. I went over the job description and qualifications I had printed out and took notes. They called and asked me to talk a bit about my work history. I started to, but then they cut me off and said I didn't have enough experience. I was confused and asked what they were looking for, and they described exactly what I had just told them. The interviewers were really rude and seemed as uncomfortable as I was.
- Can you tell us about what you've been up to since graduating?
- What have you been doing after graduation?
Associate
The interview process involved a 1-hour behavioral interview. They asked standard interview questions, and having retail experience is beneficial. The interview experience can vary depending on the interviewer. I had two back-to-back 30-minute interviews. The first one was very conversational, and it seemed like the interviewer was primarily focused on getting to know me. The second interview was more structured and involved direct questions.
- Could you describe an instance where you had to manage a difficult manager?
Associate
It was a two-part interview process. First, I chatted with the hard lines manager. They were really nice and asked about my background in bike repair and sports, and also my current fitness habits. They also had to ask a couple of standard questions they didn't really care about. Then, I met with the store manager, mainly for them to give the okay on the hiring decision and to talk about pay.
- Can you give me an instance where you provided outstanding customer service?
