First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Diamondback Energy.
Land Intern
It was a simple one-round interview process with about 15 interviewees out of roughly 170 applicants for 2-4 positions. I found the role through my university. It was mostly behavioral, not technical or experience-focused, since we were all very early in our careers.
- Tell me about a time you demonstrated leadership.
Intern
The interviewers were super nice. They asked a lot of STAR questions and why I got into geology and oil and gas. It was my first interview with a major company for an internship, so it was harder than the average high school/college part-time job interview. I learned that you really have to prepare for these.
- Can you describe a time you had to complete a challenging task in school?
Lease Operator
The interview process was pretty straightforward with questions about experience. It's been over 6 years since I interviewed anywhere, so I was caught off guard by the behavioral questions like "describe a time your core values were challenged and how you overcame them," and "describe a time you made a compromise to help the team reach its goal."
- They gave me a scenario about bad oil and asked what I would do.
- I was given a scenario where I'm short X amount of bbls daily when I make X amount daily and asked what I'd do to figure out why.
- Can you describe a time when your core values were challenged and how you dealt with it?
Automation Analyst
I applied online and then a recruiter got in touch. It took quite a while to get my interview sorted because the person who was supposed to interview me was busy. The actual interview was really quick, just 3 questions, and the interviewer didn't seem very excited. After the interview, I didn't hear anything back. I tried reaching out to the recruiter and my interviewer but never got a response.
- Can you tell me about your experience with SQL?
