The hiring process moved really fast. I had both my first and second interviews on the very same day. It was a pretty relaxed experience, and the people I spoke with were very approachable. My initial interview was with the company's president, and the subsequent one was with the CEO. They didn't really dive into my portfolio pieces specifically. However, they did ask a lot about my previous work experience.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What types of projects have you worked on in the past?
Sales Associate
I got an email with a questionnaire having 5 standard questions. A phone interview was set up after 48 hours. The phone call was great, and I felt good about it with the marketing specialist. Then, 24 hours later, I was invited for an in-person interview with the company CEOs. The in-person interview was rough. I was asked inappropriate questions like who I live with, about my family, and if I was looking for a job, which was weird since I was already interviewing. Only one CEO was there, and it was uncomfortable. Most of the time, they talked about the company's success and growth plans. The CEO seemed uninterested in what I had to say. I was told there were many other applicants and a decision would take over a week. I left feeling disappointed and wouldn't have taken the job anyway.
- How have you improved this year compared to last year?
Marketing
I applied online and then the President emailed me the next day with some questions about my strengths and hypothetical scenarios, like being an animal for a day. After that, I had a phone interview which felt really promising. A few days later, I was asked to come in for an in-person interview. I got there a bit early, but it was awkward because no one greeted me or told me where to go, even though people saw me. Eventually, the President and CEO took me to a conference room. The CEO was really passive-aggressive and acted superior, going on and on about how successful and the best they are. I went in feeling confident but left feeling belittled. The CEO's attitude alone made me not want to work there. It was a good thing I dodged that bullet.
- What are your greatest strengths?
- Which animal would you choose to be for a day, and why?
- What are your perceived strengths?
E-Commerce Specialist
I first spoke with the President on the phone, then the CEO on Zoom, and finally had an in-person meeting with both at their headquarters. They seemed receptive from the start, even saying a third interview was just a formality. The CEO liked my work ethic as an athlete but scoffed at my PTO request, saying hard work deserved time off, though the President agreed with me and I said I was only asking as a formality. The President wanted me to start immediately and was confused I needed two weeks, which is standard. After the third interview, I followed up with a thank you and got no response, which was surprising given the time invested. I realized they might have liked my skills but I was too independent for their culture, which seems to be 'shut up, don't ask questions, and work hard for money.' That last part rarely happens, and this place isn't unique. How companies treat candidates mirrors how they treat employees. They see people as a means to an end at Diamedical, working you hard for below-market pay, dangling cash incentives without clarifying if anyone actually earns them. If they want the best, they need to pay for it and understand that balanced people don't live for work.
- In your opinion, why is this role a good fit for you and what value would you bring?
- What is your perspective on paid time off and employee leave?
- What are your salary requirements?
