So, I'll start by saying that, like many introverts, I'm not great at showing off my engineering skills in technical interviews. Honestly, if I were the interviewer, I wouldn't have passed myself either. But, I also don't think they did much to help me succeed. The technical interviews were tough, sometimes really tough, depending on who I talked to. First up was a quick call with the recruiter. Then, I had a phone technical screening with the Director of Professional Services, who was super nice and I really enjoyed chatting with him. After that, it was a virtual 'onsite' with four video calls back-to-back with different engineers and managers. Some were clear about what they wanted, like asking me to explain my problem-solving process even if I didn't get the right answer. Others were more like an interrogation, asking broad questions without clear goals, and then cutting me off to ask for a different approach. There was no take-home task or live coding. Again, I'm not blaming them for not hiring me, but don't expect easy questions. They really put me through the wringer.

The recruiter contacted me shortly after I applied. The process was quick and they communicated really well. I had a phone call with the VP to move things along, and then I visited a few times to meet the product team, CEO, and COO. I felt respected during the interviews, which is unusual. Even though I had a tight schedule because I was still working, Dialogtech was understanding. I actually enjoyed the whole thing because it gave me a good sense of the business and its future. Side note: Mara is amazing, truly one of the best recruiters I've encountered!

So, the interview process basically kicked off with a recruiter call, and then a phone screen. They were really focused on how much homework I'd done on their company specifically. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with them, mostly because after 10 years in business, they're only pulling in $20M-$25M in sales. Seems like a pretty slow growth for a company that's been around that long, you know? They've got a lot of executives, but the results don't quite match up. Plus, 10 years is ages in this market, so who knows what tomorrow holds? I already have a good job, so I passed on this one.

DialogTech was quick with their hiring process, which I liked. It started with an HR phone interview, then a brief 30-minute skills test using their product that involved using it and answering a few short questions. After that, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager, and then an in-person meeting with that same manager and some team members. The last step was an in-person meeting with both the SVP of the department and the CEO. The whole thing took about two weeks. Everyone I met was nice, smart, and upfront.
