Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.
Project Manager
The interview process was really structured and clear, focusing on competencies and aligning with international development sector standards and German public sector values. It's important to have a strong connection to sustainable development, international cooperation, project management, and have technical expertise.
- How have you managed multistakeholder steering in complex projects?
Project Manager
Applied for a role but didn't hear back for over 3 months. Was asked to attend an assessment center last minute, which I couldn't do, so I had a casual chat with the hiring manager instead. They told me they weren't moving forward with my application because other candidates had more experience, which is understandable. However, they then hired an internal candidate who lacked any experience in the field. I've heard GIZ is currently only hiring internally, so I'd advise against wasting your time.
- What are your motivations for wanting this specific job?
Project Assistant
The interviewer and manager were really nice and easy to talk to, which made things feel pretty chill. They mainly asked about my past experience that's relevant to this job and why I'm interested in it. There was also a pretty in-depth case study where I had to figure out how to prepare a workshop.
- Have you had any previous administrative work experience?
