First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.
Advisor
It was a long, all-day interview with my future manager, HR, a psychologist, and a subject matter expert. We had to work together to figure out how to handle different scenarios. At the very end, the psychologist gave an assessment.
- Tell me about your language skills.
- What are your technical capabilities?
- What drives you?
Technical Advisor
The interview was supposed to be in person at their offices but they switched to virtual on Zoom last minute with a panel of 5 people, one of whom was the hiring manager. I found this switch to be really off-putting, especially after I had already bought a new suit and shoes for the in-person interview. It made me feel disregarded as a job seeker. To make matters worse, they completely ghosted me after the interview with no rejection email, leaving me in limbo. Despite their positive and open demeanor during the interview, I was disappointed by this unprofessionalism from a company I've admired. They wasted my time and resources preparing, and couldn't even bother to give me an update on the outcome. Thankfully I have a job, but I can't imagine the stress this would cause someone unemployed. Giz really needs to improve and respect candidates' time and effort.
- What is your current salary, and what are your salary expectations for this role?
- Could you describe how you handle conflicts with coworkers?
- In your opinion, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Junior Consultant
It was a full-day assessment center. It included a personal interview, a technical presentation, a psychological interview, a group task, and a presentation using a flipchart. The atmosphere was pleasant. There was a panel of 3 people, one of whom was remote. During the conversation, I was told that with a few years of experience, I should actually be hired as a consultant rather than a junior consultant. They said it might be possible, but in the end, someone else with less experience was hired as a junior.
