First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deutsche Bahn.
Project Engineer
Applied after studying. Invited to an assessment center. Test questions. Topics of the Master's thesis. With HR and someone from operations. Very arrogant and vain people. Unpleasant conversation atmosphere. HR with zero knowledge of civil engineering and/or railways. Embarrassing.
- Could you please introduce us to the subject of your Master's thesis?
Project Engineer
I got invited for an interview via a phone call about a week after applying. The interview itself happened two weeks later and lasted about an hour. The people present were a works council representative, the HR person, and the project manager. The vibe was really nice and relaxed, everyone was super friendly and likable. We started with a standard introduction round followed by a self-presentation. They asked about technical and personal development questions, alternating between them. It felt natural, not like they were just going through a checklist, even though they took notes, which didn't bother me. At the end, I got to ask my questions, and they were answered thoroughly. The HR person then briefly went over the general conditions and the next steps, mentioning that feedback would come within the next two weeks. I was nervous initially, but the relaxed atmosphere helped me calm down quickly. I never felt like I asked or gave a silly answer. Overall, I thought it was excellent, and the questions weren't hard or out of line. The decision is still pending as the interview was very recent.
- Have you encountered conflicts during your studies or previous part-time jobs? How did you handle them?
Student Engineer
It involved several interviews with HR and site managers. Everyone was very friendly and individually addressed me. I particularly liked the last interview because DB's goal is to find the right department from the start.
- Why did you decide on a dual study program with Deutsche Bahn?
- What changes would occur for you?
- What tasks do you believe you will be entrusted with?
