First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DES Architects + Engineers.
Marketing Coordinator
The interview process had multiple interviews, each about half an hour long, starting with HR. The second interview felt very scripted, with the interviewer seemingly uninterested in the answers. I was surprised to be invited for a third round. Ultimately, I didn't receive an offer or any feedback. This role was posted for at least 3 months when I applied, and it seems like they still haven't found anyone over 6 months later, which makes me wonder why.

Assistant
I saw their job post on Craigslist and sent in my resume and cover letter. I heard back from them a little over a month later. When they contacted me they asked if I could come in the following week for an interview and I did. The interview was rather short. I was interviewed by the head of the department and her assistant at the same time. I wasn't made aware that I was going to be interviewed by two people for the interview, so I was a little surprised by that. It took less than 15 minutes and the interview was rather informal. For the most part, they asked me basic interview questions and told me to tell them about myself. After the interview, which seemed kind of rushed, they offered me a quick tour of the place. Once the tour concluded I was told that they are looking to hire someone for the position within the next couple of days and that they would let me know by the end of the week. Even though I had a rather pleasant interview experience with them, I felt that it was unprofessional of them to never contact me to let me know that I was not chosen for the position.
- Do you have a writing sample with you?
- Do you know Photoshop or similar software?
Structural Engineer
I applied for the Structural Engineer job I saw on their website. The interview was a panel with HR and the head of structural engineering. They asked about my past work. I mentioned my experience designing all building types and how I felt it would benefit the firm. They kept saying they had to turn down projects due to lack of staff, which seemed like a good opportunity for them. But it turned out the position wasn't even real, despite being advertised. They claimed they had to reassess their needs. It was a total waste of my time. Terrible experience with Dumb Engineering Stupidists.
