First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DEPT.
Lead Designer
I went through this process two times. The first time, I had an initial call with HR where we discussed my background and career aspirations. Following that, I had an online meeting with senior members of the team. They described the role, we reviewed my portfolio, and I presented some of my projects, after which they asked detailed questions. They noted my presentation skills needed improvement. The second time, they were pleased and wanted me to complete a take-home test. However, before I received the brief, the position was filled, so I didn't get to do it.
- Can you tell me about your professional background?
- What are your career aspirations?
Designer
The interview process had 4 stages: first a screening, then an interview with seniors/mid-weight designers, followed by a design test, and finally an interview with the CD. Throughout the process, they were very responsive and polite. I feel like I had many takeaways at the end of the interview process.
- Can you walk me through your design process?
Designer
Right after I applied, I got an invite for a screening call. They wanted to know about my previous job, the industry I worked in, my duties, and my team, and why I decided to leave. They also told me about the company, its different departments, and the specifics of this position. I got to ask my own questions, and they asked some typical interview questions too. I heard back with a rejection the week after the screening call.
- Could you describe your most recent position?
- What prompted your departure from your previous role?
- What are your salary expectations?
