Sales
Most candidates get an interview now because of the new AI hiring system, even if they aren't really hireable. First, you'll interview with the store or assistant manager, and it could take almost an hour, maybe longer if things are going well. They'll ask about your personal life, like your relationships with your partner, family, and friends. They'll also ask about your education, specifically your social life back then, and your work history, again with an emphasis on relationships. They'll mention that the company doesn't support 'illegal drug use' and wait for you to say or do something that could get you in trouble. If you admit to any drug use, even medical marijuana, you won't get the job. If you pass this stage, you'll have another interview with the regional manager, which could be 2-4 hours long. They will ask really personal questions about your family and relationships. They'll really try to get information about drug use out of you because it's extremely important to them. They'll say they 'look for honest people, not perfect people,' but that's not true. If you admit to using ANY drugs in the past 2 years, they'll reject you and might not even tell you they've moved on.
- Can you describe your home life?
- Tell me about your relationships with your family and friends.
- What was your social life like when you were studying?
Sales Representative
There were three interviews scheduled about a week apart. The first was a pretty laid-back personality check where they asked about past drug/alcohol use, family relationships, and personal morals. The second interview focused on how the company works and re-asked questions to check consistency. The last interview was with the regional manager, it was pretty long, and involved more questions about morals, qualifications, and details about the promotion structure.
- Complete the sentence: Most people are...
- What's your definition of integrity and do you have it?
Sales Representative
The store manager was okay. The regional manager interview was a bit off. They asked way too many personal questions about my past, like what I did as a kid, instead of focusing on how I could benefit the company. I'm 60 and have a lot of life experience, including high-clearance jobs. My son, who works for the FBI, even said it's weird for them to ask some of those questions if they aren't trained psychologists. This is just a mattress company, not a high-stakes job like an airline pilot or law enforcement. If they want a background check, fine, but they should stay out of personal lives that have nothing to do with selling. They should focus more on sales! I'm considering going to the labor board about this.
- Tell me about your family.
- What can you bring to the company?
