A set of three interviews took place over two consecutive days – one technical, one behavioral, and one principal interview. The first two centered on specific aspects of the job where interviewers dug into the applicant’s experiences and skills, along with cultural fit and mindset. The final interview was with a principal/partner that continued to explore these areas and also touched on broader career focus and aspirations.

I had three 1-hour interviews: first round online, then second and third rounds on-site. Every round included a CV/background review and a case study with rapid-fire theoretical and behavioral questions. Rounds 2 and 3 were scheduled on the same day with a 15-minute break in between, which seemed to let the interviewer from round 2 align with the round 3 interviewer. Overall, the interviews felt more theory-focused and centered on each interviewer’s strongest topics. Even though the role was pitched as AI-focused, the interview content was mostly about data architecture design. In the final round, I got stuck on a topic I hadn’t prepared well enough for. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, as it might have been a difficult day for them, but the overall tone didn’t feel friendly.

- The conversation was mainly theoretical without coding, and it focused on strategy, planning, and choosing between cloud and on-premises platforms.
- There were also high-level, design-driven case study questions about planning a migration to a data platform and defining a centralized data model (Kimball + Medallion are good to review).
