First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Delaware State University.
Assistant Professor
We had a virtual interview first, then an on-site interview which lasted for 1 day. During the visit, I met with faculty, students, and the Dean. I also had to give a research presentation. There was a lunch with graduate students and a dinner with the search committee members. It took about 3-4 months for travel reimbursement after the campus visit.
- What motivated your decision to choose Delaware State University?
Online Coordinator
This was probably the worst interview experience I’ve ever had. The head of the department emailed me a day or two before the scheduled times. When I logged in, it turned out to be a panel interview, not a casual “meetup” as we had discussed. It also seemed unprofessional that one panelist didn’t have their camera on. After they asked some “behavioral” questions, which seemed like they were reading from a script, they cut me off before I could finish my questions, even though we were still within the allotted interview time.
- What are your career aspirations for the next 5 years?
Professor
The interview process was very professional. They cared about my career development and gave clear direction on next steps. They provided information about classroom locations and times, discussed expectations, and mentioned faculty meetings. HR assisted with securing an ID and parking pass. Everyone was very friendly, with no hint of snootiness.
- Can you tell me about your teaching experience?
- Which platforms have you used previously?
- What is your availability for teaching?
Navigator
I had a zoom interview for the first round and then was scheduled an in person interview for the second round. 2 days prior to the interview, I was asked to create a plan and presentation to present at the interview. This was very hard to accomplish while also still working full time. Everyone was very nice.
- Describe a challenging situation you encountered.
- Can you provide examples based on hypothetical scenarios?
