First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DeKalb County, Georgia.
Public Relations Specialist
I was interviewed for a senior public relations position. I was called and told I was having an in-person interview. That's all the information I was given. I showed up and there were four people in the interview AND I had to do a written and timed assessment that I was not informed about ahead of time. The company said they would follow up with me, and to this date, I have not heard from them or gotten a response to my emails inquiring for updates. During my interview, I was cut off when I was giving a response and told they didn't want me to talk about something. It seemed to me that they really did not want to hire someone because they wished the person leaving would stay. The person had been there for two decades, and it seems hard for some companies to wrap their heads around someone leaving who's been there forever. Complete waste of time.
- Tell me about a significant project you were involved in and its outcome.
Library Technician
Applied online via the library or company website, with interviews happening around 2-3 weeks later. The first stage was a group setting with about 40 people, including a small presentation on what they're looking for. This was followed by a one-on-one session lasting about 5 minutes, where they asked specific questions.
- What would you do if faced with a challenging patron?
- Explain why you'd be a suitable candidate for this role.
Economic Support Specialist
First you gotta take a math test, then a computer literacy test. If you pass those you get an interview. The math test was like a scenario where they had a lady with 3 kids applying for assistance. They listed her income and contributions, and bills that she paid out. You had to use a conversion factor to figure her monthly income and then see if she would be eligible for assistance. The computer part was simple questions like what is a mouse, how do you close out windows ect. Simple things.
- Can you tell me about a time you assisted a customer and describe your feelings about it?
- How did you feel after helping that customer?
Staff Attorney
I had a one-hour interview with two attorneys. They asked me a lot about criminal law and all my legal experience. They also asked about my class rank in law school and how I performed in criminal law and Constitutional law classes.
- What motivates your desire to be a public defender?
