First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Degenkolb Engineers.
Design Engineer
First, a chat about personality and how I work. Then, I got some time for technical questions covering flexure equations, and different failure modes for Concrete, Steel, and Timber. Lastly, some Q and A with the principal.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated effective teamwork?
- What are flexure equations?
- What are different failure modes in materials like concrete, steel, and timber?
HR Director
First I spoke with the hiring manager, then I had another interview with a panel of 4 people, which included the CEO and a Board Member. The conversation was a good mix of questions and discussion. I felt I could really be myself and talk about my skills, experience, and what I'm looking for.
- Can you share your experience with recruitment functions?
- Tell me about your background in benefits administration.
- What's your experience with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives?
Structural Designer
It started with an online interview that had some easy behavioral stuff and a lot of technical questions. Think basic steel and concrete knowledge. Then, I had an in-person interview where it was mostly technical questions. After that, I had lunch with some of the younger engineers.
- Can you explain moment and deflection diagrams for multiple span beams?
- What are truss problems related to chord force?
- In this given situation, where would you place rebar in concrete?
Administrative
It was a really straightforward process. The interview lasted around 20 to 30 minutes, with three people present. Afterwards, they gave me a quick tour of the office. Everyone was quite friendly and kept things pretty laid back. They got back to me within about three days, so the response time was pretty fast.
- Can you tell me about your most significant achievement?
- What is your expected tenure with our company?
- What do you envision for your long-term career objectives?
