First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DebtBook.
Sales Director
It was a rigorous and very thorough interview process. They are looking for competent, ethical, hungry, self-starters. The process included several rounds: a phone screen, an interview with the front-line manager, a cultural panel, and an interview with the VP of sales. A role play was part of it, as expected. The recruiting team was very informative and clearly laid out the process. There was a positive vibe with everyone I interacted with.
- What is your primary motivation as a salesperson?
- Could you give me a pitch for our company?
Director of Customer Success
I first spoke with a recruiter who mentioned their company was "office-forward" but they were making this role remote to attract top talent. Then I interviewed with the hiring manager, followed by two hour-long calls with the CEO and COO. They then flew me out for an 8-hour final interview where I met with 9 people, some of whom asked me the same questions again. During the onsite, I had an impromptu whiteboarding session and was asked to do an "enablement" exercise, and then attend their all-hands meeting. A few days later, they informed me they chose a local candidate, which was disappointing given the time off I took. I'm still waiting for them to cover my hotel expenses from the trip.
- Could you share your experience in building and scaling a Customer Success organization previously?
- What is your strategy for onboarding a new CSM and teaching them the core principles of Customer Success?
Client Operations Associate
My interview experience with Debtbook was fast, productive, and upfront. Since the company was still pretty small, I met with the 3 co-founders, all in the C-Suite, and one of them would be my direct manager. They talked about their passion and knowledge of the industry and product. They asked me several questions to see if I would be a good culture-fit and had clearly done their homework on my qualifications before our chat. They asked about my experience and knowledge related to the job and the industry, but it didn't feel like an interrogation.
- What sparked your interest in our company and this industry?
- What aspects of this role raise concerns for you, and which aspects excite you the most?
- Do you have any questions for us?
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward and fast, with a focus on a positive candidate experience. It started with an intro call, followed by a code pairing session where we worked through a real-world example for review and refactoring, rather than typical leet code or math problems. The final interviews were split between engineering and product teams. Overall, it was a low-stress, friendly process that allowed for good conversation.
- Review and then refactor the provided code changes during a pairing session.
